About Ky Holland
I grew up in this district. I know every corner - the local schools where my wife, children, and I all attended, the homes of friends across the hillside, the trails spanning from Glen Alps all the way to Indian, the slopes of Alyeska, campgrounds in Portage Valley, the long tunnel to Whittier. It’s been the honor of my lifetime to represent the communities of House District 9.
I graduated from Service High and attended Oregon State University, earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I began my career on the West Coast designing and manufacturing products for the mining and construction industry. As I moved into professional leadership positions and gained experience in operations management, marketing, logistics, and quality systems, I found ways to use my leadership experience to give back. I led a wide variety of community organizations and projects related to neighborhood traffic control, land use planning, affordable housing, and crime prevention.
After a centennial hike over the Chilkoot Trail in 1998, with my brother and sister, my wife and I decided it was time to come home. We moved back a year later, and I expanded my expertise into upstream and downstream oil and gas, non-destructive testing, digital control systems, post-secondary career and technical education, and workforce development. At home, I continued to be involved with the communities I knew best, serving on the board and as Chair of the Rabbit Creek Community Council, and leading a community resilience committee to address wildfire risks and other infrastructure challenges.
In the last decade, my focus has turned to the future of Alaskans and Alaskan businesses. I’ve worked to build a local ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship, organizing events, mentoring start-ups, launching venture funds, and angel investing in new ventures.
As a business and community leader, I know how to manage complex systems, work with different people, and find creative solutions to the toughest problems. I’ve leveraged these skills as your representative in Juneau - to fight for education, economic opportunity, and a prosperous and sustainable future for Alaska.
